Nestled in the foothills of the Bitterroot Mountains of
North Idaho at the Coeur D'Alene Airport, the Team 51
Headquarters is steadily progressing towards the
ultimate goal of assembling a Racer. Murdo has already
fabricated the tail group flight control surfaces, which
includes the rudder, horizontal stabilizer, and elevators.
They are awaiting assembly as Murdo continues to re-
organize the shop to make room for the rest of the parts to be assembled.
In this view to the right, you can see the spars for the horizontal stab are assembled and almost ready to begin assembly of the stab.
Another view of the spars in Murdo's shop.
In this view you can see that Murdo has fabricated more than one set of skins for the rudder, in fact he has made three rudders and has chosen the best set to install on the Racer. You can also see the skins for the horizontal stab propped up in front of the rudders.
Elevator skins are sitting on top of the mold for the horizontal stab. So, as you can see, things are starting to move along on Race 51. If all goes well, Team 51 should be ready to race in Reno by 2007. Stay tuned.
